Hairstyles for Locs (Dreadlocks) When You Just Need A Change

1.  Vintage Updo

Do this easy updo by folding a bandana in half, then using the opposite ends to make a knot. After making the knot, put your hair in a high bun or high ponytail (or a low bun or ponytail). * If you have bangs, fold them back and tuck beneath the bandana for a bumped look.

2. Tuck Your Locs in a Hairband

Simply tuck your locs into the headband to achieve said look.

3. A Flower Crown

A simple flower crown will do.
- Combine looks and tuck your loss into a headband and then put a flower crown on top

4.  Double Buns Half Up-do
Decide how big you want the double buns to be (for thicker ones, add an extra section of locs ).

5. Braided Crown

1. Begin to braid the locs on each side of your head (I start where my hair is parted).
2. Where each braid ends, tie it off with a hairband.
3. Use bobby pinks to secure the braids to the back of your head.

Ta-da! Enjoy these 5 hairstyles!

God bless, you guys!

Bohemian Inspiration

'
Hey guys! I'm so sorry this post is so long overdue. I've been so busy with a sudden influx of work.

1. Try a kimono
-- They're light and summery and perfect to get those floral patterns into
2.  Try a long sweater with an aztec print

3. Or a scarf

4. Or just go all out with a scarf and an animal/and or Aztec print

God bless!

Boho Monday

Shirt: Forever 21
Leggings: JC Penney

Hey guys! I hope you're ready for more Bohemian outfits because I'm going to do a whole post shortly after this one (If not the next post, should be the one after).
Anyways, today I sported leggings and a shirt with slits on the sides along with my normal earrings I recycled into loc beads for a cool boho look.
This was a perfect outfit for today because even though it got hotter, this shirt is thin and made of cool material. I also love the slits on the side! ( I wore an undershirt because the slits do come up to above my navel.) Is there a specific name for shirts like these because I like them! It's like wearing a dress but not at the same time.

If you do get a shirt like this, I highly recommend leggings as I wore in the above pictures for an easy, breezy outfit.

Suddenly Geekier

Suspenders! I just got them for my birthday and I love wearing them. They're clip-ons I can put on both pants and skirts. I haven't tried it on skirts yet but I'm excited to try it! I love the sudden level of geekiness it's added to my wardrobe.

Cute!!!

Sterling and Stripes

Hey guys! Wow! June and July are gone and can you believe it's August? I feel like I've been sloppy with my clothes all July and now I'm going to snap back into "Fashion Mode" for August. I sported this outfit last week when I was out with my family.

The part I like most about the outfit is the jewelry though. All of them were made of sterling silver from my loc jewelry to my armlet and my wristwatch.

I tend to prefer sterling over most types of metal used in jewelry. It's strong and much safer than many other metals such as Cadmium which is used in a lot of costume jewelry.

If you'd like to find sterling silver jewelry, try Amazon or Etsy. There are great buys on both sites!

New Bibles and Graduation (The Holy Spirit is Listening)

Hello! Hello, Lovelies! Isn't our Lord wonderful? Well it may come to a surprise to some of you, but I just graduated! I'm so incredibly happy!
Our church had a graduation ceremony where they gave us the beautiful Bible shown below. Isn't it fantastic?

I love the pastors at my church. They're so wonderful and lovely. At our graduation ceremony, they prayed over us. The Holy Spirit was definitely speaking to them. He moved them to pray for me and each of the other graduates and families. In fact, our pastors prayed over a specific dilemma I hadn't told either one of them about. It was so amazing and I'm so thankful. Jesus loves us so much!

I pray for the Holy Spirit to guide me throughout my whole life. He loves us so much. It's been proven time and time again.
Please don't feel that God doesn't listen to you. He does. He hears and He will always, always answer you.

"For as many are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God." Romans 8:14

God bless!
Jesus loves you!

Got my Locs Retwisted

Finally, I got my locks retwisted after like two and a half months. Wow! It felt so good to. My hairdresser was great! She literally cut the ones that were joining together to separate them and then conjoined thinner ones to thicken my hair ( I wanted thicker locs). She braided the back of it and pinned up my bangs to give me a faux pixie-cut look that would keep the twists in, hence the pictures above.

What are some tips your hairdressers gave you about your locs?

Classy Churchwear

I love going to church! Here's a classy outfit I wore today for church service. Although, let's remember that church is all about Jesus, not our appearances.

Love you guys!

Locking Relaxed Hair with Braidlocs

Hey sweeties!

Yes! Here is the post I first mentioned in my last post Warm & Cozy and Subtly Geeky about what I'm doing with my hair.  This post is all about locking my hair!

The Beginning of my Locking Process:
From the picture above, it probably looks like my hair is just braided....and it was. The thing is, if you leave the hair braided for some time, it will eventually lock hence the term braidlocs.
Usually, people with looser-textured natural hair lock their hair with braids. Well, my hair was mostly relaxed except for the new growth so it didn't seem like a bad idea to at least attempt braidlocs. I figured at that point in time that even if my relaxed portion wouldn't lock, I'd just grow it out and cut the relaxed ends off eventually. (But I'm not even worrying about it. Everything is in God's hands).

How my Relaxed hair was Braided:
First and foremost, my mother braided it. We used Qhemet Biologics Olive & Honey Hydrating Balm which held despite my hair being so straight and little black elastic bands to hold the very tips of the braids just in case. Just so you know, the bands were unnecessary! They popped right off and went springing across the room. My advice: don't even bother. Just use the Qhemet, is my suggestion.

What I Used: Qhemet Biologics Olive & Honey Hydrating Balm

The Tedious Parts:
Hey, I'll tell you now that if your hair is really, really straight in some areas the braid will most likely begin to unravel. When that began to happen, I started backcombing them. Backcombing is simply combing upwards instead of downwards, causing knots instead of loosening them. Also, you may see loose parts in the braid where you can see teeny holes because it isn't holding. As irritating as that is, don't worry if you're planning to just chop it off. I paid more attention to the natural part of my hair that had no problems because it was thick and curly.

How I Maintain My Hair:
  1. Water: I've been spritzing my hair with water almost every day. It's a MUST to keep your locs healthy.
  2. Oiling: I've been using jojoba. Make sure the jojoba is real/not mixed with other ingredients to ensure that your hair stays healthy! People sometimes add fillers to oil to save themselves money.
  3. Washing: YES! Wash your hair! Having locs doesn't mean being gross! Your hair needs to be cleaned so it doesn't become gross and well....a health hazard.
    1. When I wash my hair I don't use a stocking or anything like others do with their starter locs. I just asked for some Trader Joe's Tree Tingle and for the first month and a half just washed my scalp, allowing how hair to just be pelted by spray of water from the shower. Since I will need to eventually deep clean my hair, I will be using TJ's Tree Tingle on the rest of my hair pretty soon.
  4. Palmrolling vs Freeforming: I've been freeforming actually. I didn't know whether or not I'll begin to palm roll or not because I actually love the thickness and freedom of freeforming! In fact, I would've freeformed my hair entirely (started without braids), but I started with braids because freeforming is risky when you want to make sure every one of your locs are a uniform size.  I did not want very small and very large locs at my head all at once.
    1. Since I freeform, I've been in the habit of separating my locs. If you don't want one big loc, I highly recommend it.

Below is a picture of me now:

Seven weeks into locking my hair!
Progress of my Locs:
They've frizzed a lot and are swelling up, a definite sign of progress! I'm not sure when my hair will be fully locked but I look forward to the journey!

Thanks for stopping by!

Warm & Cozy and Subtly Geeky

Hello geeky lovelies!

How are you? Me? I...I'm a busy, busy bee. Meanwhile brainstorming content for this site and trying to come up with fashionable outfits (because I've been more concerned with being warm lately than being fashionable), I have also been trying to factor in housework, reading, writing, homework and everything in between. No complaints! I'm blessed. I just need more content to share.

ANY-WHO!!!,  Remember that tidbit about being warm? Yeah. That must have been my subconscious focus today because not only did I wear a Heattech turtleneck (courtesy of Uniqlo) but I also put on a plaid hoodie . Don't ask. It wasn't even cold here, but that's what I wore out. Ironic, isn't it? The day it's warm, I decide to get cozy and warm.
"What are the glasses for?" You ask. Nothing much. Just to add a subtle geeky flare.

Well, that's my spiel for the day! Thanks for checking it out!

Bye guys!

P.S: My glasses are fake!

Follow up to know my lipstick + a review and what I'm doing with my hair since I've kicked my relaxer goodbye! (Ooh! I'm so excited)

Happy Resurrection Sunday

Happy Resurrection Sunday!!!  He has risen!!!

Luke 24 NIV
On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. 2 They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3 but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. 5 In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, "Why do you look for the living among the dead? 6 He is not here: he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: 7 'The son of Man must be delivered over to the hand of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.'" 8. Then they remembers his words.

I am thankful that Jesus died on the cross and rose again for our sins! He will always be my biggest hero out of them all! It was the most selfless thing he could've done for us. Now, our sins are forgiven when we ask for it.  From his death and triumph over the devil, everything changedDisplaying IMG_4510.JPG.
